Leather Mask Care:
The main thing to remember about caring for these masks is knowing that they need to be worn sometimes. Even as a mask collector who normally only hangs their masks on the wall, it helps to wear them now and then.
Leather is responsive to it's environment. Your mask will become more comfortable and conform itself more to your face the more you wear it.
Leather masks are strong and durable, and under normal wearing conditions. Remember to watch out for are excessive heat and moisture. Either may cause the mask to become subject to becoming distorted. Avoid leaving the mask in a hot car, or wearing it in the rain.
If the mask should at some point become misshapen, leave it in a warm moist environment, (in a bathroom while showering, for example), until softens, and you should be able to restore it's original shape. (It may help to wearing it and press it to your face with finger tips to restore itís shape to your face).
Leather Mask Cleaning:
If the mask is displayed hanging from a wall, it may need dusting now and then with a soft brush. If it becomes soiled, use a soft damp cloth to gently wipe it clean. Do not use cleaning fluids or spray cleaners as some of these can cause damage to the finish. Though your mask is made of leather, the leather is covered with an acrylic sealer, do not attempt to use leather conditioners or other leather care products on the mask.
Leather Mask Storage:
The best way to store or display leather masks is to mount them on a mannequin or wig head. The inexpensive styrofoam heads work very well.
To hang the mask on a wall for display, use two hangers or nails placed at about the width of the facial portion of the mask. Tie the mask's ties so that they are pulled straight across the back, but not so tight that they pull or distort the mask. The mask should hang so that the hangers support it just where the ties are attached to the sides of the mask. This will prevent the mask from losing it's shape when hanging. If a single hanger is used, the weight of the mask on the ties may cause it to sag and distort after a while.
With minimal care and attention, your mask should give you many years of masking pleasure.
