Rattan Cane Selection Guidelines:
Any impact toy can be used sensually or sadistically. Rattan canes have the potential to be very severe. A favorite of sadists/masochists and disciplinarians.
Standardized lengths are general guidelines. For specialized applications, feel free to stray slightly from these.
One has to be extremely aware of all factors effecting safety. Strike areas, cane density flexibility, length and diameter considerations all account for a different effects. And donít forget...No two rattan canes behave in the same way.
To exceed recommended standard lengths, the cane may be too whippy and more difficult to aim and control. Canes below recommended standard lengths may tend to be too clubby and inflexible.
- Longer canes have more impact than shorter ones.
- Thicker canes (10-14mm) have less flex, are thuddier and more likely to leave bruises.
- Thinner canes (4-7mm) have more flex, are stingier and most likely to cut skin.
- A varnished finish is stingier than a natural finish.
Control of a cane is not easily attained. If you arenít used to caning, we would suggest some practice with cushions. Aim for the center of the outside cheek and bring the cane down parallel to the floor and cheeks, striking the inner cheek just before the end hits the outer cheek. Do not let the tip hit first or rap around the side. Move the point of impact up and down between the center of both cheeks and the join with the thighs. Avoid hitting anywhere near the spine or the "tailbone" which is located underneath the join at the top of the cheeks. Use the marks as a guide to adjust your stance and/or aim. Experience, study of appropriate strike areas and techniques will all promote a wide range of variety and safe play.
